In 2023, a mother sperm whale, called Rounder by scientists, gave birth to a baby. The amazing birth was caught on camera.

The calf emerged, tail first, amid a waiting circle of whales. Newborn sperm whales can’t float by themselves, so the whales took turns lifting the newborn to the surface to breathe. Some of the whales who helped were family. Others were not related to Rounder and her calf.

This is an amazing example of how animals help each other in the wild.
