A lone tree clings to a cliff on Robinson Crusoe Island in the South Pacific. This tree is around 150 years old. It is also the last known wild tree of its species, Dendroseris neriifolia.
To stop this tree species from going extinct, conservationists collected its seeds and are now trying to grow new trees.
Saving the tree is important, not just for the plant itself, but also for the animals that depend on it. One of them is the endangered Juan Fernández firecrown hummingbird, which feeds on nectar from the tree’s flowers.
