Scientists Mark and Jackie are on a mission to capture weird, wonderful, and loud animal sounds in a patch of the Amazon rainforest. They are using custom parabolic microphones paired with tablets to visualize sound waves. Why is the team building an acoustic library of the area’s wildlife? These sounds will help scientists identify which animals are present in the forest and track their movements.
Did you know? The howler monkey is one of the loudest land mammals! Males roar their location through the forest. Roars of 90 dB (decibels) have been measured at close range.
