Neither a spider nor a scorpion, the whip spider is a unique type of arachnid. Its “whips” are a modified pair of front legs used to sense its surroundings.

More than 150 species of whip spiders are found across the tropics and subtropics. These fearsome-looking hunters strike at night. However, they have no venom, and they are not dangerous to humans.
