Bats are flying mammals that search for food at night. Many bats are endangered, so scientists must count them to keep track of their numbers and to find important roosting sites. But sometimes thousands of bats emerge from a roost in just a few seconds! So how do scientists count them?

New tech is helping! With computers and artificial intelligence (AI), scientists are able to count large groups of fast-flying bats. And the result looks a bit like a video game. Watch the latest episode of Then vs Now to learn more:
