Whether you’re channeling a character from KPop Demon Hunters or an animal is more your thing, here are five tips for making an awesome costume while staying “Hallo-green” this spooky season.
1. Dress wild

2. Embrace your inner conservation techie
Conservation tech is the world of cool gadgets scientists use to study and protect biodiversity. You could dress as the SnotBot, a drone that collects mucus from whale spouts. Or, go as a camera trap that snaps wildlife selfies.

3. Make a statement
Use your costume to raise awareness about an environmental issue you care about. It could be reducing light or plastic pollution, using renewable energy, or helping endangered species. Coen P. (age 12) from Australia designed his costume to raise awareness about invasive species.

You could also dress as an explorer, scientist, or conservation hero you admire. When people ask who you are, explain how this person helped us better understand or protect nature and why they inspire you. A few ideas: David Attenborough, Jacques Cousteau, Jane Goodall, Bindi Irwin, Wangari Maathai, and Greta Thunberg.
4. Incorporate natural materials
Skip plastic and use leaves, flowers, hay, or natural fibers in your costume. You could become a garden gnome, a leaf fairy, or a forest queen. Ask a parent or friend to help you put your outfit together.

5. Use recycled and repurposed materials
Turn aluminium foil, old newspapers, or a pile of boxes into a DIY look that shines. Upcycle old clothes into something new and spectacular. This way, you can dress as your favorite brain rot meme or book character and make the planet proud!
