The Smallest Squirrel: African Pygmy Squirrel (Myosciurus pumilio)

This mouse-sized species of squirrel can be found in the lowland tropical moist forests of Africa. They are a solitary species and females provide all care for offspring, of which the average is two. Unlike other squirrels, the African pygmy squirrel does not hide and store its food. Under the IUCN Red List, they are listed in the category of Least Concern.
