A group of scientists in Tanzania is training African giant pouched rats to sniff out illegal wildlife products, like pangolin scales, elephant ivory, and rhino horn. Why?

These super rats have an excellent sense of smell and brilliant problem-solving skills. And despite being one of the largest rats in the world, they’re just the right size to get around in tight spaces like shipping containers.

Giant pouched rats have previously made news for detecting landmines and sniffing out tuberculosis. Now, they take on wildlife crime. Watch the video to learn more.
