The Smallest Ungulate: Lesser Mouse-deer (Tragulus javanicus)

The lesser mouse-deer, or kanchil, is the smallest species of hoofed animal in the world. They are native to the southeastern region of Asia. Weighing, at their biggest, around 4 pounds, causing feral dogs to be a large threat to their population. Another threat to the lesser mouse-deer is their high involvement in the pet trade and hunting. The IUCN Red List lacks data on the population numbers of these animals, so they are, as a result, listed under Data Deficient.
